Who is Mr. Eco?

Brett “Mr. Eco” Edwards is an Environmental Rap Superhero that incorporates sustainable living tips into rap music. He is a third year Business Major, Entrepreneurship Concentration at Cal Poly. He is a project intern for the Alliance to Save Energy’s Green Campus Program that promotes energy and water efficiency among students and faculty.

What can he do?

Educate students about living sustainably in a fun and catchy way that nobody else can.

How?

Through performing at lunches or assemblies as well as giving class presentations on specific topics (i.e. single use bag ban in San Luis Obispo.)

Songs that can be performed:

All off of his parody album “Get Green or Die Trying” which is being released on Earth Day, April 22nd.

  • “Turn Em Out” reminds people to turn off their lights when leaving their room in a catchy way.
  • “Reusable Bag” promotes the use of reusable bags and educates on the negatives of single use paper and plastic grocery bags. The bag ban in San Luis Obispo is effective in October.
  • “You Can’t Find Me in the Tub” is about water conservation and encourages people taking short showers as opposed to baths.
  • “Save So Hard” is the theme song for Cal Poly’s Red Brick Energy Competition, which has 1,500 students competition over a four-week period to save energy and water.
  • “Power” is a general song that promotes using power “electricity” efficiently.
  • “Green Life” promotes living the “green” life as an intern for the Green Campus Program at Cal Poly. This song features Fresno State Linebacker Travis Brown.
  • “PSA” is a song that introduces who Mr. Eco is through a Public Service Announcement.
  • “Prince of Fresh Air” encourages people to get out and enjoy the outdoors and to keep the air fresh for future generations to come.

Target Schools:

Elementary and middle schools. He performed at Ahwahnee Middle School in Fresno over Christmas break. You can view a video of the performance at his website. He received tremendous support from the students and his YouTube channel experienced over 1,000 views in the three days following his performance from the kids at that school.

Recommendations and ideas:

Showing the kids Mr. Eco music videos in class before he comes to perform so that they are familiar with who he is.

The performances don’t have to be assemblies and take any school time. At Ahwahnee Middle School in Fresno he performed during the second half of lunch.
